This page provides a brief overview of the STEM and engineering courses offered at Folsom Middle School.

Robotics

Robotics is a hands-on engineering course focused on building, testing, and improving mechanical systems.

Students:
• Design and build robots
• Fabricate parts using 3D printers and laser cutters
• Work in teams to solve open-ended challenges
• Test, iterate, and refine their designs

The emphasis is on problem solving, collaboration, and learning through iteration rather than simply completing tasks.

Computer Science: Physical Computing

Computer Science: Physical Computing focuses on how code interacts with the physical world.

Students:
• Program microcontrollers
• Work with sensors, inputs, and outputs
• Build systems that respond to real-world data
• Debug and improve their code through testing

The course emphasizes logical thinking, experimentation, and applying computer science concepts through hands-on projects.

Coursework and Assignments

All assignments, project directions, due dates, and submissions are managed through Google Classroom.
Students are expected to:
• Check Google Classroom regularly
• Review feedback on assignments
• Track deadlines and submission status

Families are encouraged to review Google Classroom and PowerSchool together with their student to stay informed about progress.

Assignment Calendar

Assignments posted in Google Classroom automatically appear on the Google Calendar. Students can use the calendar to plan ahead and track due dates. Google Classroom remains the official source for assignment directions, updates, and feedback.
